Evaluation

Shoot day 1: On the first day of my shoot i was in the studio. In the studio i set up the studio lighting to go off in time with the camera to allow the model to be well lit up and visible. I also had the model stand in front of a white background when taking the photos. The photos i took on day one was full face photos of both Millie and Rachel and also close up photos of there eyes. In my opinion i don’t think day one was successful due to me not liking any of the en results of the photos. This helped me learn what to do different with the photos for the next shoot with things such as lighting and focus. An issue that occured on this day is that the lighting wouldn’t shoot in time with the camera causing the photos to appear dark and unfocused making them unusable to use in my final photos.

Shoot day 2: On the second day of the shoot i had a more successful day. I was able to take more photos in the studio with Millie and Rachel. On this day we managed to sort out the issues with the camera and i was also able to take more successful photos that i will be using as my final photos. I took photos of close up features of both Millie and Rachel’s face. The photos i took were close up of their lips and side profile as well as a medium close up of their full face.

Shoot day 3: On the final shoot day i took the last of m photos. The photos i took on this day was more close up photos of Millies an Rachel’s eye which i think were my most successful photos due to the detail that can be seen in them. I also took mid shot photos of both Millie and Rachel so i can have shots that show the identity of both of them to help fit with the brief.

Once i had completed all my shoot days i looked at all my photos as a whole and decided which photos i wanted to use to present my work. Once i had chosen them i then edited the photos in lightroom to help the details on the photos to be more visible and to pop to make them eye catching.

When completing my project one of the main things that went well was that i was able to plan and produce my photos effectively and have then shot the way i wanted them too. This can mainly be seen in the photos of the eyes i took due to them showing great and clear detail of the eyes. Producing my research was also successful as it allowed me to discover new ideas and to also develop my ideas further. One of the things that wasn’t very successful when producing my work is that i wasn’t able to take as many photos as i wanted with different models. I overcame this issue by using the photos i shot in the studio with 2 different models. A practical problem i faced when shooting my photos is the lights not working in time with the camera and also the photos being over exposed. I overcame this issue by sing a new camera to fix the lighting issue and also changing the iso and shutter speed on the camera so less light is being let in so the photos don’t appear over exposed.

Overall i believe my project was successful based on the aims i wanted to achieve as well as successful in representing and showing identity of one or more people.

Investigate Approaches, Formats and Types of Media

For task two i explored the different approaches and forms people can take when making work these include

A) Film and video

B) Audio

C) Visual Images

I explore the use of Film and video when making work in the task This is my world 2 which can me found on my page. I also explored the use of audio inwork in This is my world which can also be found on my page.

Visual images is an approach that can include photomontage, slide shows and prints. The requirements for this type of form is to make sure copyright forms have been done to make sure you own all rights to your work and that nobody can steal it. You also need to make sure you have organized how you want your work to be seen and presented to ensure that the production progress runs smoothly without any complications. When doing this type of format you need to consider how you want the images to be seen whether you want them as a gallery or to have them move across the screen.

Realisation And Presentation

Explore ways of presenting your idea. you should outline at least two different ways in which you intend to present, which should include the following:

a) Traditional forms of presentation e.g. prints, gallery, exhibition, screening

b) Digital exhibition with interactive elements- e.g. website, installation, game

There are many different ways in which you can choose to present you work two in which include Traditional forms and Digital exhibition with interactive elements. The traditional forms of presenting is usually the most common way of presenting work. This type of presenting is usually done by using prints, gallery exhibitions and screening. If you’re using this type of presenting you would need to get prints made of your work to be able to hand out to people or to have them displayed in an exhibition and/ or a gallery so people can come and go to view your work. This type of presenting is usually prefered as it allows people to see your work in real time and also be able to touch and engage with the work. However with the current situation this type of work isn’t possible which leads us to the second form of presenting which is a digital exhibition which includes interactive elements. Presenting this way will be difficult as to do this you need to know how to code to create a website or game o you may near to hire someone which makes this way more expensive to keep a hold of. However the good thing about presenting your work this way is that it allows people to be able to view the work wherever they are whenever they want. The interactive features will also make the work more memorable and more fun for the audience to see.

When creating interactive media you will need to ensure you have planned many things to allow the media to be a success. One of the very first things you’ll you need to do is to ensure you’re able to do the coding for a website or a game or hire someone who does so you’ll be able to have functioning media. Once this has been done you’ll then need to choose the type of media you want to have shown o your game or website and to complete copyright documents so your work cannot be stolen. If i was presenting my work with digital media i would create my work in the form of a gallery to have all my work displayed in front of the viewer i would also arrange the work in a colour order to make the work satisfying and more engaging to the audience. The problems im most likely to face is the website crashing or not being able to display my work the way i want to. I’d resolve these problems by looking in to what caused the website to crash and by also displaying my work differently.

Develop and plan creative ideas for integrated project

One idea that i came up with is to take photos of peoples eyes. The reason as to why i chose this idea is because everyone has different eyes which is also a way to distinguish a persons identity from other people. If i was to further develop this idea i would need to find a number of models each with different types of eye colours. I will then have the models stand in front of a white background whilst having studio lights on there face to help allow the colour of there eyes to pop. I will then edit the photos to show more details of the eyes to make them more unique to the model based on the details that are seen. Before i’d go ahead with this idea i will need to ensure that my models have completed a release form so i’m able to use the photos of them when i present them in my group crit. I will also need to ensure that i have all the equipment that i’ll need when shooting. This includes my Canon Camera with both my lens as well as a macro lens to ensure i get to see more details of the eye. I will also need to ensure i have studio lights as well as a tripod so i’m able to have a steady shot with the correct lighting.

Another idea that i came up with is to take different types of shots and angles of peoples face to express and show there identity. For this idea to be developed i will need to find some models and take photos of there side profile as well as close up of eyes, mouth and nose. Before i do this idea i would again need to ensure the models have completed a release form so they can appear in my work and to also ensure i have all the correct equipment for when i’m shooting. The equipment i’d require is a Canon camera as well as studio lighting and a tripod to again ensure i have a steady shoot with the correct lighting.

The final idea i came up with is to represent my identity. I would do this by taking photos of myself as well as everyday items that i use that i believe helps identify me such as the clothes i wear for different purposes such as work clothes and my everyday clothes, my phone and things around my bedroom that make me who i am. I would also take photos of my face as well as my hair because they also help identity who i am. Before shooting i will need to make sure that i have all the equipment that i need such as a camera and a tripod. I also need to ensure i have the items i would like to shoot such as items of my clothing and my phone.

The final idea that i chose to further develop is idea number 2. I chose this idea because i believe that it helps to better identify the subjects. I will be doing this idea by taking photos of my friends some in college using the studio to have better access to lighting when shooting. I will also take photos outside of college of a few of my other friends in front of a white background. Whilst doing this idea i will also ensure that i’m keeping both myself and my model safe by being Covid safe by wearing a face covering as well as sanitising my equipment before shooting and making sure im in a sanitary environment

Research and investigation of Identity

What are ways that identity could/ has been represented in photography, as well as other visual and media practice?

Identity can be represented in many ways such as through personal identity, cultural, social, body image, fashion; issues of gender, class, ethnicity.

Fashion is a big way in which identity is able to be represented in photography and the media.. The clothes we wear help identify our interest and style in life. For example if someone is wearing a sports bra and leggings its helps us identify them as having an interest in the gym and fitness. Another example of fashion that helps show identity is grunge clothing if a girl is seen wearing chequered clothing with things such as fishnet tights with any other types of dark clothing they’d be viewed as grunge meaning they have an interest in rock subculture such as punk rock and heavy metal.

Body image is a big part of identity because it helps determine how a person views themselves and the attitude they may have. If someone has a poor body image they might try to cover up and keep there body hidden. They might have a negative attitude on life and may not focus on everyday things as they are to busy focusing on making themselves look better. However someone who has a positive body image may be more confident and be happy to show off their body and have a more positive attitude on life and be more focused on things.

Photography can help show peoples race, gender, ethnicity, class and culture which helps show parts of people’s identity.

Sally Mann is a good example of work that helps portray identity effectively. This can be shown with her work titled ‘faces’. In this work we can see multiple shots of a woman’s face with each image containing a different focal point. The woman also appears as if she’s looking through glass due to some part of the image containing cracks. The use of the close ups as well as containing different focal points in the photos helps to allow us to get a closer look into the woman’s identity due to being able to see different aspects of the ace as well as different details of her facial features. For example in one photo we can see freckles all over the woman’s nose however is other photos her nose appears as if she doesn’t have any. I feel as though these types of photos allow us to understand that people view others differently. Seeing these photos have helped inspired the photos i want to take and have given me a way to further develop my ideas by focusing on different points of the face rather than just the face as a whole.

Another practitioner that helps show identity is a film called memento. The film is about an insurance investigator who suffers from amnesia so he then uses notes and photos of tattoos as a way to find a man who he believes killed his wife. This helps relate to the film as it helps us see different ways in which we’re able to identify people. This film again helped progress my idea towards identity because it allowed me to know i could use small features of a person which could still help identify them.

This is my world Part 2

What are the requirements for planning and recording video?

When recording video you have to plan the same way you would when you record audio. You have to start of by deciding what you’re going to shoot and where your’e going to shoot. You also need to ensure to complete both a release form for a location as well as for a person. You will also need to complete a risk assessment to make sure everything is safe when shooting.

Task 1:

What is your world at the moment?

What would you like your world to be?

Task 2:

Edit a short video

Task 3:

Reflect on outcomes

Ways of seeing: This is my world

What are the requirement for planning and recording audio?

The requirements when planning are recording audio is to firstly plan out and organise what you are hoping to record and what you also intend to use when editing the audio after it has been recorded.

you also need to ensure a release form has been completed so you’re allowed to use the persons voice without any legal constraints. When recording audio you also want to make sure the background is quiet so the person speaking can be heard fully. You should also make sure that the person speaking is speaking with a clear clean voice with no mumbling so the audio comes out clear and can be easily heard and translated. As the audio is being recorded use headphones to hear how the audio is being recorded to ensure its clear and to allow you to make any necessary changes whilst still recording.

Task 1:

What is the world at the moment?

Describe what you see and what you do.

What are your interests? What do you like doing?

What is a typical day for you?

Task 2:

What would you like your world to be?

What would you like to be doing if you weren’t in lockdoen?

What are some of your aims and ambitions for the future?

What are places you’d like to visit?
